If that w140 has a 722.5 then toss it. trust me when I say the 722.5 is not a transmission you want behind any engine. especially if you want to use reverse gear one day.

That's the plan so far. I hadn't planned on getting rid of anything electrical, engine accessories, etc. This engine is amazingly clean.

So.....I came across a '92 400E in a local Pick n' Pull. Other than brakes and rear diff, is there anything else worth grabbing?

I'll have to see if they're rusted to shit or not. I might try to work some kind of trade with W140 carcass for the parts I want after I pull the engine. I've stripped it about as far as I feel like going otherwise.

Responded Joe. On another note, I finally yanked the engine & trans from the W140 today. I'm glad that's over so I can get it out of my garage. it's funny how massive that engine looks on an engine stand. I probably could've done a better job pulling all of the wiring/electronics but I was running out of patience and don't have plans to re-use the factory ECU.

Yeah they are a lump.
You should see how big an OM606962 and 722.6 looks on an engine dyno run stand.
Makes an LS look like a little joke... (in looks and power delivery)

The last engine I had on a stand was a Pontiac 455. I had a thing for Buick, Olds, Pontiac big blocks once upon a time....think torque.

I never really got into the LS engines because I was playing with Mk2 VW's at the time. My car interests have been the equivalent of not knowing what I want to be when I grow up!

Managed to do a little pillaging from the 400E yesterday. Now to blast, powder coat and rebuild these.

I'm going to try to make it back for the rear subframe soon.

Before I do too much digging and re-reading old messages/posts, is the W124 subframe a bolt in for the W201?

No, not at all. the frame changes in width to fit the different chassis's, the 5-link arms though, they are the same.
