What did I do today? Pulled my hair out. that's what I did.
Took the distributor, injectors and lines off of the CIS system off for cleaning and inspection. After replacing the O ring on the fuel distributor, it's running worse, much worse, not better. Going flat at 4k rpm instead of 5-6k now. To the floor, no load, it goes to 4k, and slowly pulses between 4 and 5k. Okay, take the distributor back off and see what happened. Feels like it's going off one cylinder when it loses power.
Gave the injectors a couple of hours in the ultrasonic cleaner, and shined up the injector lines on the oft practiced but seldom proved theory that a pretty engine is a happy engine. No difference, so cross that off the list.
Pulled the EHA plug, retuned lamba tower a bit so it idles, no difference, still acting sick in the same way.
So I went from an underpowered but driveable 16v to a virtually undriveable 16v. Not exactly what I had in mind.
