Interested to see what you're going to do with the slk box. I've got a getrag box for my .98, but I'm seriously temped to go for a similar box should it fit. Which clutch and flywheel are you going to run with it? Although the clutch and flywheel setup for the getrag box would be simple, I don't like the linkage arrangement on the getrag and I think I'd prefer obvious extra gear and probably better ratios.

Can't wait to see the progress!

Missed this due to the outage. I'll be using a sprinter single mass flywheel conversion since this trans was meant for dualmass. It uses a 9" clutch like the 16v does. clutch material and type i have not decided, pressure plate, i have an idea. the early slk pattern is the same as the m102/3/4 and some of the om60x diesels, so this trans will bolt right up. i too am looking forward to that top loader shifter feels over the 3 linkage arms.

Definitely curious about the 6-speed for the 104. There's a lot of talk out there about that swap but not many people have done it, or at least documented it.

everything is pretty straight forward with it. it is a dualmass so if you want to rev you'll need to get one of those sprinter van conversion singlemass flywheel conversions.

    October 2016 updates

The 16v shell I've been saving has turned out to be too damaged to become the drift comp car. Where the subframe mounts to the body on the left hand, rear mount, the metal had been ripped away and haphazardly repaired. Initially I thought properly repairing the area could disqualify the car for competition under a rule against "strengthening" certain areas where the subframe connects to the body. After looking it over it was clear that it would take far too much time/money to repair this area in addition to possible disqualification. Thus began the hunt for a new car, which conveniently enough, did not take very long. A craigslist ad from Sacramento had a very interesting car for sale, whose price was steadily dropping every few days. Final price was $250, not bad at all.

Looks to be a variation of this Lorinser kit, from the "Good Book", if you have it, you know what I'm talking about ;p

    Meet the car!

Little crack there but doing ok.

Skirts. Best part is it's an OG install. No wood-screws or glue here fortunately.

    The booty

Kind of digging the deleted trunk lip

    Not digging the grill

    Paint code, loving the 877

Previous Owner stocking up on them Walmart fluids

Sub-box removal, it was so bad, I didn't care to take a before picture lol

My seat is pretty far back, so our main hoop is going further rearward than most cages I've been researching.

Dry ice DOES NOT WORK for the sound deadening material in the floors. It only made it stronger. I had made more progress at room temp, so I had an idea... ended up using my heat gun and a paint scraper instead.

After getting the measurements, it was time to start bending a main hoop.

    Test fit.

My friend Josh, the cage builder, quite a proud poppa of the fitment he pulled off.

    Nice and tight!

Tacking in the cage and boxes

Next up is A-Pillar bars and rear down bars. More progress and pics soon!!!!

As always, 190rev gets the extra bonus content for Der Grønne Pige build, but this time it's even more special; extra super secret bonus widebody surprise at the end ;p for rev eyes only.

    More stripping!

Chassis harness ready to pull through the firewall

All out and without needing to cut it up

But we did cut some holes for the rear down bars ;p

Mad wheel gap! I haven't even removed the old engine and trans yet lol

    No more wires

    Cage tacked in

Seat in to double check measurements and start on the door bars

    Tank!

And as promised, super secret bonus widebody teaser! Shhhhhhhhhh! don't tell anyone lol

    Rear downbar box

    Main hoop box

    Cute artsy still life photograph

    8v engine/trans out

The main hoop high-X and rear downbar X, with this angle it almost looks like the wood tripods I used to lash together in Boy Scouts.

Up next cage will get welded and the door skins cut for the door bars!
