    Darkwing

    Let's get dangerous!

So, some of you may recognize this car as 16v4nrbrgr. I mentioned in my other members ride post that I recently became its new owner. I decided to make a members ride post about this car as it is taking a new journey with me as the owner. Currently it has been assigned daily duty and Dimples (my main 16v) goes under the knife for its EFI.

How it looked after cleaning it up

I removed the AMG reps and plopped on my r129's with re71r's and some other stuff I had laying around... thanks for the license plate reflector Ship!

A little mini meet up at muh shop

Took it out on a nice 60 mile canyon drive through the valley and up Mt. Hamilton to the Lick Observatory out here in the SF Bay. Was going to shake out any issues with the brakes. None reared their head.

Darkwing was ready to get really dangerous!

    Niiice! Like the duck tail.

Has it been repainted darker than original? Looks almost like more of a straight black.

Wheels look better now too, I like monos but most of them look like snowshoes on a w201.

Black Friday came around and instead of sitting in line, I went out to the track. Got third place in the time attack challenge! Cars are grouped by base points and this car had none basically, the bottom of the bottom stock and I did not expect to place anywhere at all, very surprised. Look at that floppy cat go!

    End of a great day

Thanks man. The car was originally smoke silver and it's been resprayed to some emerald green and then dark gloss black from an Acura. Since I have always wanted both colors, I will be restoring this car and having the paint redone in smoke silver. I agree on the wheels, at least they were 17", 18" I would not be able to deal with at all.

034 is close by and I may enlist their help in tuning but I'll be installing the efi at my shop.

Judging from the picture of the first and second finishers ahead you, I'd have to confess it wasn't the car or the skill that was lacking but perhaps the extra few pounds around the waist Dyllon

Loved the photos brother. Keep 'em coming.

I've realized this as well lol when I go karting with my friends, despite being ahead or even on an actual track, I'm quite behind in the karts. The spare tires add those precious seconds.

    Sonoma Drift Winter Jam!

    prep

got a new windshield in order to pass tech. no cracks are the rules. I did all the trim and wiper removal because I assumed the windshield guy would break stuff. ended up that the dude was so happy I did that for him he gave me a fat discount

    day 1 was dry

    turn 11

    skidpad

day 2 was very very wet

    cresting turn 3a

this poor guy had to stand in the rain all day for the skidpad area. the guys for the on-track drifting at least got to stay in their trucks lol

various end of the day glamour shots

while drifting on track through 3, 3a and 4, I really got going with some speed, top of third gear around 75-80 on turn 5, which is slight right gradual hill. I spun 180* when the passenger front tire touched some mud. while looking at the wall coming at me over my left shoulder, I thought well, this car is dead. and it happened, BAM! right into the wall with the back left corner. I thought I knocked a ducktail corner piece off, shattered the tail light and crunched the bumper. I really thought the car was for sure wrecked, it was so loud and hit so hard. but when I went to the service road to check out the damage, I only found this tiny scratch. I burst out laughing, I couldn't believe that was the only damage. so lucky!

soooo, darkwing is catching no breaks lately. while it was raining here last weekend, I had a little run in with a miata. we hit while turning left onto the road that leads to our shop. knocked off my rear arch trim and bent the toe rod. pulled a toe rod out from one of my other 190's at the shop and had the car back running in about 40 minutes. replaced it later on with a new one so i could put the pulled one back in the other car, in case it needs to be moved around our lot. never a dull moment with darkwing.

I had actually been on the way to the shop so i could switch out tires and wheels. the evo I's are going back to track duty and getting a new set of R6's, so i slapped on some whatever-cheapo wheels i found on craigslist. they ended up looking kinda cool.

Got Darkwing one of those classic reissue plates..

16v4nrbrgr wanted the strut mounts he made for another project, so I decided to give those silver project mounts a try. I'll let you all know how they hold up..

Trying out those Stern wheels and working on the lexan bucket lights 16v4nrbrgr made. I needed to remove the old mains as the yellow film he used had deteriorated and I need to fix the fogs. The fogs beam doesn't spread without the ribbed lens and so it is useless. I've got a plan to fix it, hopefully they come out nicely..

Curious to see how those strut mounts work for you, what kind of camber do you like to run on the track if you don't mind me asking?

I'm curious too, so far no clunks or anything weird with the ball. been daily with darkwing and some canyons runs here and there. In the front I'm running -2.7 on dimples the track car, and darkwing is running -1.8.

How are you liking the silver project mounts?

Think they would fit under a Weichers strut bar?

They've been holding up quite well, no clacking from the pillow balls. They're smaller than stock mounts, if that bar fits over those, it'll work with the silver project plates.

I have the silver project adjustable shock towers on my '86 300e - I did not get as much negative cambe rout of them as I had hoped, only about -2.7 degrees. Have about 2 years of racing on them and they are holding up fine.
