Yeah if that failed at speed and you were hurt they would be out of business. Glad it happened when it did and you and the car were not hurt.

Had a friend pick them up so I won't have them in my possession for another few weeks

I bought an engine hoist off craigslist.

It was a great deal @ $150 for the HF 2 ton model, a engine stand and some random tool cart!

I'm going to use it to facilitate boring and stroking my 103

Thanks! I'm pumped. I've been looking for a set for a while. These showed up 6 hours a way but luckily I have a buddy who lived locally enough to get them for me. I'll drive out in the new year to get them. I've got quite the horde of rims going at the moment but still looking for some aero 1s and Lorinser Los to round out the collection. I need a 16v kit too

LOL, a "Wheel Hoarder" - wow, you are the only one I know! Great wheels, really are, timeless classic!

Say, you would't happen to have a set of staggered Carlsson 1/6 in 18" laying around, would ya? Been looking for a set for 2 years now... And while we at it, Brabus Monoblock II in similar setup as alternative... Someone from VWVortex has a set, local in VA too, but 17" and non-staggered. I'm used to having the "meat" in the rear!!!

    Regards,
    D

Hah. Those are a project for another day. Both of my sets were in great condition but I still overhauled them. Make sure you check the lug holes through to the centre bore for cracks, get them repaired asap before you go any further with them as they can crack through the entire length of the lug hole into the bore and render the wheel totally useless.
Hopefully those barrels are round too. I had one with a slight buckle (rear - 8" one) and it was over $600 to replace. It was not repairable, due to the way it had impacted 'something' and looked like it had been heated and rolled just a little too enthusiastically.

They are the shiznit in 17x10 Et17 though.

If anyone finds a set of Mandrus Emil's I'm still looking for a set in 18x8 ET32.

Strictly not 201 related, but after 3 years, the 124 coupe is finally back on the road.
With a new 716.6 manual transmission.

It would have been completed a couple of years ago however, if not for a couple of life altering changes & subsequent changes to work commitments.
I really hate it when work interferes with playtime too.
But I'm happy with the result. It's also 100% factory parts, except for the propshaft and a couple of small but detailed and intricate fabrication / machining tasks.

But those dormant years were not without lots of detailed research and planning, filtering out the bullshit from true fact and then ensuring everything is factory fit is not exactly a straightforward task.
Even the best planning has a couple of contingencies.

No matter what life throws at you, you should never give up on your projects.

    The results are very satisfying.

Definitely a wheel hoarder! I should thin things out a little. No Carlsson 1/6 nor Brabus Monoblock II though. I did see the latter for sale locally relatively recently for a good price. Will keep my eyes open.

I know about the centre bore and lug bore issues with these. Unfortunately I wasn't able to inspect them prepurchase. I sent pictures of ones with cracks to my buddy and told him to look closely for them. He said they were clean but isn't a car guy so I have my fingers crossed. For the purchase price I couldn't afford not to gamble. Will also keep an eye out for Mandrus Emil's

Too bad those discontinued. Very nice looking wheels! Was looking for those too, ended up with 18" Rotec instead for my R129

Nice, kinda jealous, the only manual MB I've every driven was 2.3 gas saver W201. Wonder what's it like...

    Unfortunately/ Fortunately there isn't one.
I wasn't able to do much due to the accident and injuries.
But that is only half the reason- will take forever to explain and completely off topic.

Might do a wrap up after xmas- if there's still interest

I hope you are recovering as quickly as possible. There's always interest especially if it serves to dispel some misinformation floating around.

Yeah, I'm all good now - that's why the car's back in my driveway

I'll take some more pics of underneath so you can see what is going on there when I get a chance to wrap it up. not really much 201 stuff in it, but the principles are basically the same as an m104 into a 201029, plus manual bits n pieces.
