Yesterday I pulled the induction system from my 190DT. Lots of goo caked inside. I am also pulling the old glow plugs and replacing them.

I also cleaned the rear seat metal partition and applied some SPL tiles. Did the same to the trunk lid and other areas inside the trunk. I think I might go to a black interior?

I wish I were pop testing and calibrating my injectors.... but I ran into a little problem. The piston sleeve on my standard broke. Must have been cracked when I first bought it. And the standard is not being used anymore so finding parts is very difficult. I was quoted almost 500 USD to get a new one made by a shop that repairs these. Right now I am speaking to a couple machinists in another club Im a member of. It might just be 20 bucks each as I intend on getting more made.

So I drove around my 8v 190E and was going to do a manual trans swap on it, BUT I kind of like not having to shift :) (daily driver is my 16v) Does anyone know if throwing in a manual will increase low end torque substantially?

Good info on clay bars. A friend of mine did one on my 190 a few years ago..when it was done the surface was silky smooth.

Clay is sweet, I clay every car I ever owned and my parents cars at least once a year with clay. If you care about your car after 7-10 years you better take care of the paint. But if you lease a brand new Infinity/BMW with your first job outta college..well...nu'f said.

Flew a 1 v 1 defensive ACM solo and managed to get the other guy to fly into the hard deck.....considered a "kill". Damn my neck hurts though......he calls a fox-2 (AIM-9X shot) and I break for the deck, call "chaff flares" and my head is stuck over my shoulder resting on the canopy trying to see him as I snatch on 6.8 G's. Ughhhhhhh......time for some stretches :) Pretty fun stuff though!

And my wife played a pretty damn good april fools prank on me. Got a message from some guy saying he was from Jono's shop, telling me that the engine rebuild had gone bad, that they found substantial subframe damage, and that they needed a speedy downpayment of 5 grand to get working on fixing it all, pending much more work. She played it off pretty well and I was definitely convinved. Turned out to be her little sister's husband so that was a relief!

if you have decent paint, ONLY use the white bars. they won't damage anything, don't go using a harsh bar (blue or purple) on good paint. and make sure you don't drop it on the ground, pick upa bunch of sand in the bar and then rub it on your paint.

In short, do your homework before you rub shizz all over your car.

I do this everytime I wax my car so every 4-6 months depending on how long the car stays outside. once a year on constantly garaged cars. And I wash my car thoroughly twice before rubbing anything on it, and I use soapy water, not the damn mother's quikwax residue city stuff

Just my .02 from my time as a detailer

oh yea, I worked on my stupid thesis today and am already regretting not meeting up with RabidDaVerylBenz tomorrow

edit: RabidDaVerylBenz has a nice ring to it.

Hahaha after working in a busy detail shop, I've used a clay bar on hundreds and hundreds of cars. It doesn't usually take too long to clay a car that's only a couple years old but hahaha if your paint has been mostly neglecatated for the past decade or longer you can expect it to take awhile. Make sure to use plenty of soap or clay lube to provide ample lubrication to avoid scratching the paint while basically sanding your car with a piece of clay. Like Ship mentioned, do your best not to drop the claybar. Once you have decontaminated every square inch of the exterior and returned it to feeling velvety smooth like when it was brand new, it's a good time to apply a coat of wax. Wax is a piece of cake to apply and remove on uncontaminated silky smooth paint. Avoid caking the wax on and make sure to wait for the wax to completely dry before wiping it off.
